Eric’s Cornwall is more than just a blog about pub visits; it’s a window into the world of Eric. Eric is a complex and super interesting character. He’s played sport at the highest level and not just in a single sport – he is one of the few people who can claim to have played for both Leicester Tigers (rugby) and Leicester City Football Club. He was an accomplished sailor having completed transatlantic crossings as a professional skipper and been an Arctic explorer with a few attempts under his belt of landing a yacht on Greenland; sadly, it’s a lot easier now with global warming! Eric has a rich academic history successfully completing three degrees and just finishing shy of completing his PhD.
In 2018, Eric’s world was turned upside down when he suffered an horrendous stroke, which initially paralysed his right side and he lost the ability to speak, suffering severe Aphasia. Eric is slowly rebuilding his life. In 2025, almost seven years after his stroke, he still continues to make progress. Despite the adversity Eric’s outlook on life is remarkable. He still wants to experience new things and is desperate to get out as much as he can, experiencing all that Cornwall has to offer.
